Recording of Play The Game panel on “The return of sex testing in international sport: is it justified? is it ethical?” available

The recording to today’s panel at Play The Game on “The return of sex testing in international sport: is it justified? is it ethical?”

is now available here.

Big thanks to Madeleine Pape for organising this panel, and to my wonderful fellow panelists Sone Erikainen, Payoshni Mitra, Sasha Gollish and Marcus Mazzucco (a pleasure finally meeting in person).

And the biggest thanks goes to the athletes harmed by the regulations who came to listen to us: Caster Semenya, Annet Negesa, Evangelina Matena Kyatena. What a privilege to have you in the room.

Wrap up of European College for Sport Science Conference in Rimini July 1-4, 2025

I was delighted to give a keynote at the first plenary session of the 30th European College for Sport Science conference held in Rimini July 1-4th, 2025. The plenary session was titled “PS-PL01 – DSD- and trans-athletes in the female category: scientific and ethical controversies” and I shared the floor with Professor Yannis Pitsiladis. The session was chaired by Professor Sigmund Loland, Norwegian School for Sport Sciences, and Professor Erica Gobbi, University of Padua, Italy. Direct message me if you are interested in receiving the slides of the presentation.

I was also thrilled that my PhD student Giulia Sesa, a member of the Doctoral Training Network in Sports Integrity and Ethics (DAiSI) was awarded the 2nd prize for the ECSS Young Investigator Award out of 353 submissions! Congratulations Giulia for an excellent presentation titled “Discrimination or Protection? Investigating the Ethics of Limiting Participation in Sports on Public Health and Individual Well-being Grounds”.
